Well, turns out my folks are coming up for Christmas after all. My aunt told them to go ahead and bring the dogs, even though we all know this is a bad idea. But at least I won't be alone for the holiday.

So, I have found out from my parents that they cannot come to the Bay Area for Christmas this year. They waited too long this time to make reservations at the kennels for their dogs and now the place is full. Bringing the dogs up is not an option, either. So, unless thhe kennel gets a cancellation in the next week (extremely unlikely, apparently) I will be celebrating Chistmas Kevin McAllister sstyle. (Let's see who gets that reference.)

I could take Greyhound or Amtrak down there, but that means I have to ask my roommate to take care of Stella while I am gone. (Amanda will be out of town.) But I don't feel comfortable asking that of him.

On the plus side, I get to sleep in!

I had only met Alex once. It was at Casa de Faire about 2 or 3 years ago. I had known his wife, Johanna, for several years. We always flirted. I should point out they were both in faire garb, and he had a sword on his hip.

I won't quote her exactly, but Johanna introduced me to Alex as a friend from a certain club. Before offering me his hand to shake Alex first turned to her and said, "Why do you tell me these things when I am armed?"

We talked for a while and became acquainted before we heading off to ddifferent things. I don't believe he had been diagnosed with cancer at that time, but if memory serves me, the next time I saw Johanna, Alex's battle had begun. I never had the chance to meet him again.

Tonight he passed, and my sympathies go to his wife.

So, it looks like I pretty much have no plans and no costume for Halloween. This makes me feel pretty lame. But I guess its karma for ruining someone's Halloween last year.

So, for Amanda's birthday we are going to a strip club one night. I haven't really been to any of the clubs here in years. So, anyone have any recommendations?
